Do You Need Asset
Protection?
If you have money, you are a target for a financial predator.
Many of these predators are lawyers who make a generous living by
finding excuses to sue people like you.
In one case, a lawyer hired a detective to track down the past patients
of a surgeon and then contacted those patients to ask if they were
really, really, really happy with the outcome of their surgery.
They may find you because of where you live, the car you drive, your
occupation or from an asset search with a computer.
If you look in the back of any legal publication, you will see dozens
of ads offering to locate the assets of people the lawyer might sue.
Some of the predators are the police,
sheriffs and
federal officers who are entrusted with protecting us from harm, but
who
can't resist using the forfeiture laws to their own advantage.
In one case, a family lost their farm because a person they didn't even
know was growing marijuana in a back corner of their farm. In another
case a $16,000 car was confiscated because of a driving
violation.
When you do attempt to create legal barriers to protect your assets,
you may encounter other legal predators who convince you to set up a
costly arrangement that will only get you into trouble with the
authorities.
Most people assume that if they have liability insurance, they don't
need anything else. While it is important to have insurance, there are
great gaps in coverages and many insurance companies are aggressive
about looking for excuses to deny converage after a claim is
filed. For some professionals, the cost of liability
insurance is prohibitive because of the kind of work they do and not
because of any bad claims experience.
Then there are the numerous lawyers who are jumping into the asset
protection specialty with limited training and without having anyone to
teach them the ropes. You should be very wary of any lawyer who
has not devoted more than half of their time to this specialty for at
least five years.
Even worse, there are a growing number of insurance agents, financial
planners, investment advisors and even accountants who want to help you
to create an asset protection structure and who basically offer to
provide legal services for which they are not qualified or
insured. The biggest problem with many of these well meaning
advisors is that
they don't
even know what they don't know about the
complexities of the legal process of asset protection.
Then there are the promoters who believe that one size fits all and
that a low cost package of legal boilerplate will make them a lot of
money even if the package is ill suited to you and your family. (Some
of
these promoters even have impressive legal credentials but they have
decided it's more profitable to sell everyone the same package whether
they need it or not. )
But the worst of the sharks in this infested ocean are those who put
together some kind of foreign trust or offshore limited liability
company -- with the false promise of huge tax savings. Thousands
of U.S. taxpayers have put money into a foreign trust or foreign
corporation based on false advice and are now paying huge fines to the
IRS for the unreported income in their foreign entity.
There is a ton of non-sense and outright fraud on the Internet
regarding asset protection and related tax issues.
There is no
safety in doing nothing and there is a risk that you could
get caught in the web of some predatory promoter of offshore structures
or even of domestic limited partnerships that are of questionable value
because of how poorly they are structured.
What can you do?
You can spend a small amount of time and a very small amount of money
to educate yourself about the variety of legal ways to protect your
assets and about the many kinds of scams and schemes that you need to
avoid getting into.
The more you know about the subject, the less likely you are to become
the victim of a false prophet who claims to have the magic potion to
protect your assets from every harm.
I have gathered together a team of some of the top legal professionals
in the U.S. to help me explain the complex subject of asset protection
in plain English for those who do not have a law degree or years of
working in related fields. Even if you do have a law degree, if you
are
not a specialist in this complex and controversial subject, you will
find
that we offer the most extensive and economical education
available
on the subject.
From 1993 through the end of 2000, Offshore Press, Inc. (previously
Research Press, Inc.) published a series of in-depth monthly research
reports on
the subject of asset protection and complex tax saving arrangements. We
explored and questioned every known legal arrangement from joint
ownership to the controversial offshore trust and the charitable
trust.
For three years, we also published the only newsletter on offshore tax
law for the general public to help dispel many of the myths and
nonsense
being promoted on the Internet.
Then we completed a 150 page guide to asset protection and risk
management for amateur (non professional) investors.
Twice a month, we issue an email newsletter that includes significant
news about asset protection and the complex tax planning arrangements
described in our reports and books.
Nearly ten years of research reports on asset protection methods,
ALL of our ebooks, the twice monthly
newsletter on
International Wealth
Protection and related tax subjects, plus dozens of additional
in-depth reports and hundreds of articles are available for $180 per
year if you use our automated online order system.
If you are not ecstatic with the value and ease of use of this
educational resource, we will give you a 100% refund of your entire
subscription fee at any time during the first full year of your
subscription.
All of our material is written for the layman.
All of our material examines "the good, the bad and the ugly" aspects
of various asset protection and tax arrangements. We avoid all
arrangements where we could get some kind of financial incentive for
promoting some sort of product or service other than our own research
reports, seminrs, newsletter and books.
To protect yourself from the numerous crooks and even from well meaning
but unqualified local advisors, you must educate yourself about the
basics and about the kinds of scams and schemes you need to avoid.
You can get that kind of help by subscribing to the Offshore Press
on-line library of wealth protection and related tax research reports.
Unlike most technical articles on similar topics, these reports explore
the advantages and the risks of using various devices like a family
limited partnership, a limited liability company, the homestead
exemption, a foreign bank account or a foreign trust -- and many, many
more.
These reports are available on a restricted web site for paid
subscribers. You can get instant access to the web site at any time of
day or night with our Yahoo secure automated order system.
Don't Venture Offshore Without Us
If you (or a client) is seriously interested in "going offshore" for
asset protection, a business opportunity or for access to investments
not available in the U.S., we offer the most extensive on-line source

By
the way. It wasn't raining when Noah built his ark and you can't buy
fire insurance when your house is on fire. Your asset protection
structure must be put in place before there is any event that could
give
rise to a lawsuit.
If you put off getting started, there is a good chance that you could
be sued before you have had an opportunity to protect some of your
assets from the financial predators.
So don't put this off. Get started now.
If
the information on our subscribers' web site is not what you want or
need, you can get a
full refund within the
first 12 months, with no hassle or argument.
My name is Vernon Jacobs and I rarely have anyone who asks for their
money back -- but when they do, I respond immediately with a full
refund.
I've been an author and publisher of tax, legal and even computer
related material for over thirty years. I'm also a CPA and a
former insurance executive -- which is part of the reason why I have
the
technical background to tell when some lawyer is trying to give me a
snow job.
I'm also very fortunate to have been able to recruit some of the very
best and brightest in the field to help me to deal with honest disputes
between various experts.
Let me help you to protect your assets from the numerous legal and
financial predators in today's world.

Offshore Press, Inc.
P.S.
If you don't take steps
now to protect your assets, it will
be too late when someone tries to confiscate your property.
But if you are up to your eyeballs in alligators and just don't have
the time right now, at least sign up for a free subscription to my
email
newsletter
The
Jacobs Report. On a time available basis, I respond to questions
from subscribers, customers and others. You won't be buried with more
email because I only send out about 2 or 3 memos each week. And
during the tax season, I may go for weeks without sending out any
memos.
But at least
it's an easy
way
for you to stay in touch so you will remember to become a
subscriber when you have a little more time to learn about how to
protect your assets from financial and legal predators.
Another P.S.
From time to time I sponsor seminars on asset protection or related tax
subjects. My paid subscribers will get substantial discounts or will
have the first opportunity for limited early bird discounts.
